Let me introduce myself!

I thought it was time for a little blog post about the lady behind the lens! So hi, here’s a little write up about me.
I thought it was time for a little blog post about the lady behind the lens! So hi, here’s a little write up about me.

For the new clients, it’s nice to meet you! To my regular clients, and now friends- nice to see you again! My name is Kelsey, and I’m a Vancouver island Based photographer who also travels the world for love stories. I capture all things people- maternity+newborn, families, couples + weddings, boudoir… you name it!

I’ve been a photographer for almost 12 years now or so? The years are blending! I started with a busted up old camera, which actually didn’t even have a button to take the photo- I used a tac taped into place. (Yes I still have it as a keepsake and good memory of where it all started!) I took things more professional somewhere around 2016 and became full time when I was pregnant with my daughter in 2022- which was scary to do but I will never look back now!

A little bit about me now. I married my best friend, Adam, in 2022 while I was 6 months pregnant! We have been together 7 years this year- We were supposed to get married in 2021, but covid put a damper on that plan. I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Vienna, In 2022 and to my handsome son, Harlow, in 2024.  I have two big goofball dogs, and a spicy kitten as well! Two under two was/is totally chaotic, but I love my little family. It’s always busy, loud and overwhelming but it is also incredibly special, hilarious, and heartwarming. Watching my kids grow has been the best blessing yet, while doing it along side my husband.

I’m a girl who likes to get her nails and hair done, but is constantly in the garden or barefoot in my yard covered in dirt, or starting a new project I usually have to make Adam finish for me. I love the outdoors- Vancouver Island is the perfect place to appreciate nature and live the Westcoast life. I love to travel, and have started taking on destination weddings which is the perfect combo- love stories + traveling = happy kels. I’m also big into camping, we have a little travel trailer that I wish we got to use more, but it’s been pretty cool watching the babies grow up in it and making those camping summer memories together in!

My favourite type of music is classic rock with a special feature on Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac and Bob Seger. All the good stuff, also can’t forget Nickelback. Fun fact: I met Nickelback when I was 8 and also have seen them 3 times total with a 4th coming up this summer at the Laketown grounds. I love a big variety of music, anything that makes you feel good really.

Totally not my every day style but wanted to look ✨professional ✨

Now a little more about my photography style! I really aim to have my clients feeling themselves, comfortable and having fun. Photography to me isn’t just photos. Photography is the memories you want to cherish and remember for the rest of your life, and the generations to come. Photography is being able to look back and remember every little detail that is easy to slip away from the mind. I truly have so many memories as a photographer, watching peoples family grow from just a couple- to engaged- to married and pregnant- to one baby and then two. People gaining new furry family members, but also their last moments with them as well. I’ve become so close with some of my clients as I watch their lives change each year, and have the privilege to capture that in a photo.

My flow of photography is quite natural, I strive to keep families in their elements and couples to show eachother love as they normally would- with a little extra sprinkled on top for posing. I always make sure to guide you during sessions, while also following your flow of what feels right. I’ve worked with kids, plus having two of my own, for so long that I have learned all the tricks and tips to get those true smiles to shine through. Not the forced school photo smiles that the kids despise! I want the kiddos, wether they are 2 or 15, to have fun and be themselves. Whatever that means, I’m always up for the adventure or challenge to steal a REAL smile.

My editing style is really based off nature tones. I love the true to life edit, that leans on the warm side while still showing off colours without being obnoxiously bright or overpowering. I love to work with natural lighting, and embracing those sun flares that light up a photo just right. Golden hour, ya hear me? I work with flash when needed, like on a wedding day when the sun goes down and the dance floor lights up with excitement- but overall I prefer to work with natural lighting to keep the photos feeling more natural too.

Overall, as a photographer I am honoured to capture your memories. I’m honoured to be a part of so many incredibly special moments that will be talked about forever! I’m proud of what I do, and the photos I provide for my clients and I don’t see an end to this career anytime soon. I’ll be 85 still rolling around in the sand with the kids to get those smiles, I might need a hand up but you can bet you will see my photos for years to come!

Thanks for sticking around if you made it this far, I may only get one or two views on this (probably my lovely MIL, and my husband- biggest fans!) but I thought it would be cool to do a deep dive on who I am as a person, and a photographer. 🤍

Lots of love, Kelsey Lageri Photography
